May 2025 Update
This month was the final march to graduation but we made it. Here’s what happened in May.
Skylar treated me to brunch and shopping on Mother’s Day and it was fun to spend some time together. She stays so busy that I hardly see her or talk to her some days. Oh the joys of living with a highly-functioning adult. We also went to see the Savannah Bananas at Nissan Stadium. I had so much fun that I’m trying to figure out if I can get tickets to see them in another city. It was a blast!
My niece, Savannah, got married this month. They had a private wedding ceremony but it was fun to celebrate them at their reception at this precious venue next to a pond. My other niece, Avery, also graduated high school this month and we got to see her walk across the stage at the Murphy Center.
One graduation tradition I love is when Stanford Montessori invites all of the previous students back for their Fly Away Ceremony. Even though we ultimately chose to homeschool, we have such fond memories at Stanford where Skylar attended from age 3-6. It was fun to see some of her old teachers and for me to visit with some of the mamas I served with on the PTO.
Her graduation ceremony was held at Travecca University and Skylar was honored as the Most Outstanding Senior (similar to valedictorian) and she gave a speech to the graduating class of 2025. She didn’t find out until 2 days before graduation but managed to put together (and memorize) a really cool message. I’m so incredibly proud of her! As homeschoolers, I got the honor and privilege of presenting her diploma, which was an interesting experience. I still can’t believe my wild & free unschooler is graduating with 24 college credits. I can remember days where all she did was catch bugs, build fires, or watch Magic School Bus.
We also attended her New Student Orientation at MTSU. I’m legit jealous but so excited for her to start college this fall. I have such fond memories of my Freshman year and I know she will as well. It seems as though MTSU has a wide variety of resources to set her up for success both in and out of the classroom. She’s certainly not going to go hungry that’s for sure – the meal plan is crazy generous! She’s met her roommate, selected her fall classes, has already requested a transfer for her job, and I just bought her a brand new Macbook as a graduation present. Other than dorm shopping, she’s ready to go!
We also decided to paint the house over Memorial Day weekend so that’s still a work in progress.
Outdoor pickleball weather has returned so that’s been keeping me busy most days /nights. We even signed up for a league in Lebanon that starts next month which should be fun!
