June 2025 Update
After graduation, I gave a big sigh of relief. Everything felt instantly more calm. We did it! When I requested her final transcripts and put the final touches on her 12th grade folder and realized I didn’t have to register for another school year, it felt kinda surreal. I’m just so proud of all that we accomplished together. We went from Montessori, to homeschool, to unschooling, to co-op, to tutorial, to dual enrollment. I had to get really creative some days but mostly I learned that she’s her own best teacher. Ultimately, she graduated high school with 24 college credits and a 30 on the ACT. She’s also held down a job and is well-liked whenever she goes. I’m big proud of the Skylar-led path we took to get here, even though some people said I was crazy most days. Sis turned out juuuust fine!
We played in our first PB league this month and it was so much fun. Each week had a different theme and we played some really good players. We didn’t do as well as we had hoped but we had a blast and met more people. I definitely didn’t go into it with the competitive mindset that was needed but I still enjoyed it and would do it again – especially if Jan is running it! Some of our PB pals also hosted a house party and it was so much fun getting to hang with everyone off the court.
I also went on my annual summer solstice trip with my cousin, Angie. This year we ventured into Kentucky near the Daniel Boone National Forrest. I was able to see the tallest waterfall in KY (Yahoo Falls) as well as the widest in KY (Cumberland Falls). We car camped in the State Park and also visited Blue Heron Mining Community via train which is a secret National Park. It was so nice to get away for a few days and just relax. I also enjoy using this trip as an opportunity to set new intentions for the 2nd half of the year. Bonus: I stopped back by Cumberland Falls by myself on the tail end of my trip and got to see a rainbow over the falls, which was a fun phenomenon.
Overall, June has been pretty calm after the rush of Senior Year sports and activities and I’m thankful. Next month, I’ll be back in Bama for 4th of July and Skylar has aviation camp in Wisconsin – stay tuned!
