Family Update

October 2022 Family Update

I checked off a huge item on my bucket list this month. Skylar and I spent Fall Break in Albuquerque, NM for the 50th anniversary of the largest hot air balloon festival in the world – and it was a dream come true! So much of the festival is dependent on weather but, over the course of a couple of days, we were able to see a dawn patrol and two mass ascensions. We also enjoyed a fireworks show, drone light show, Flamenca dancers, vendors, food, and more!

In Albuquerque, we visited the balloon museum, Pueblo Cultural Center, Route 66, Petroglyph National Park, and Old Town. We also popped over to Sante Fe to visit Meow Wolf Art Museum, which was amazing and indescribable. The food in both cities was delightful! I’m ruined on enchiladas forever. Nothing will ever compare to how good they were there. And the green chiles – so good! This was the first big trip that I planned and executed on my own, which was intimidating and overwhelming but I did it and I was so proud of myself. Now that I have that one out of the way I’m looking forward to more!

Back home we jumped right back into scouts, hockey, lacrosse, school and work for Skylar. That girl stays so busy – but she loves it all and she’s a delight to be around so I don’t mind helping her get to and from those activities. She’ll be driving on her own soon enough so I’m trying to enjoy all the windshield time I can.

I had Send Me Woodworks help me refinish my mom’s hope chest and it turned out so nice! This was the last piece of furniture I needed to finish my bedroom. I absolutely love my room. It’s perfectly styled and minimal for my taste. I created a macrame wall hanging on a piece of driftwood that Skylar found for me and it was the perfect touch!

We’ve continued to spend lovely nights out on the back porch. This has been such a lovely fall and I don’t want it to end. We spent Halloween night with the Sloans in Spence Creek and promptly started listening to Christmas music on the way home. Let the holiday season begin!
