August 2025 Update
It’s August so we did go to the fair, which is one thing I look forward to every year. Suprisingly I only took one photo of these cutie little pigs but I did eat my heart out with roasted corn, ice cream, deep fried reese cups, street tacos, beneighs, and lemonade. I definitely left with a tummy ache that lasted through the next day but it was worth it. I really enjoyed walking through Fiddler’s Grove once the sun went down and people watching while listening to live music.
Aside from a little pickleball, August was basically just counting down until college move-in day. Skylar finally sold her car (she bought a truck back in July) so we said goodbye and blessed & released “Spooky” back to the world. Skylar also went backpacking the weekend before. She camped 2 nights in the middle of nowheresville and had a total of a 10-mile hike. Thankfully she was able to utilize satellite texting to let me know she and Sophie were alive. They did run out of water on the last day because the creek bed was dry but they made it!
We also managed to get in all of the dental work she needed before heading off to school. The 2nd appointment was much less stressful than the first. We have wisdom teeth scheduled for fall break. Still fighting with insurance to get her crown replacements covered but we’ve gotten a lot accomplished in a short time.
The night before she moved, her only request was to have a family & friends movie night and watch one of her childhood comfort movies, Monsters University. We ordered pizza and I made one of her favorite desserts. I loved having everyone piled up in the living room together, watching a movie about moving to college. It was a perfect evening!
Move in at MTSU went really smoothly. Skylar had 5 Ikea bags, a trash bin, and her bike. There were some kids with TONS of stuff, which is mind baffling to me but also made me thankful for how minimalistic and easy Skylar is. Her only decor was an airplane quilt made by my Aunt Sheila and a Dolly Parton photo for the wall. After a quick trip to Walmart for Capri Suns (essential!) and snacks, she was all set.
I’ve loved hearing about her first week. She’s made friends really quickly and has had something to do every night. The meal plan is crazy generous so she’s eating good and she’s enjoying all of her classes so far. She was able to transfer her job to their location on campus and has already started there, but with much less hours. In short, she’s thriving just like I knew she would!
Taylor Swift gave us all kinds of good news this month – new album and her engagement! That combined with the cooler weather, back porch sitting, and knowing my kid is gonna be okay had me feeling all kinds of giddy. Life is just really happy and peaceful right now and I’m so thankful!
