January 2025 Family Update

This is the first time in a long time that I’ve actually felt excitement and not dread to start a new year. Granted, my life is crazy busy until we get through hockey and lacrosse season. I don’t technically start my new year until Q2. That’s when I start thinking about goals and things I want to focus on but I can already tell that this year is going to be different. Last year had some unexpected surprises and so many good things that set me up for what’s next. For now, I’m just trying to keep my head above water.

January at work is always crazy busy as I try to help clients wrap up 2024 and help new clients build their brands for this new year. I’m currently booked out until June with website projects. I always enjoy the week I take off during Christmas and New Year’s. It gives my brain a well needed break but it makes me dread coming back to work on January 2nd. Skylar is always so good about bringing me a little pick me up. I’m already a little sad about her being away at college next year and noticing all the sweet things she does for me.

We were supposed to be in St. Louis the 2nd weekend of the month for hockey but a snow storm happened. Instead we were snowed in for a day or so but I didn’t mind having some downtime. We all had time off work (because we were supposed to be traveling) so it was nice to just be able to chill. We played a lot of games, watched movies, and lost all track of time. One night I walked outside around 1 am and the sky looked absolutely beautiful (all purple and pink) and lit up with the reflection of the snow. I don’t like being cold but there’s something peaceful about a fresh blanket of snow. And just as fast as it snowed, it warmed up and we were even able to play PB outside.

Eagles have done really well in the playoffs and I’m so excited they are going back to the Super Bowl. I know they can beat the Chiefs and I have a really good feeling about this year. I got a Jalen Hurts jersey for my birthday and I’m pretty sure it has helped them win. I’m certainly too superstitious to wash it now.

I have a precious new nephew that I’m so excited about. I’m trying to figure out when I can go see him but hockey and lacrosse have taken up most of the possible dates.

Skylar has been on a baking kick lately. Her challah makes the whole house smell amazing and her braiding has gotten really good. It’s also been a fun way for her to make extra money lately. She’s been saving and saving for college and also went ahead and started a retirement account for herself. I wish I had the financial understanding and hustle that she has when I was 18. I’m beyond proud of her and excited to know that she’s setting herself up for success early.

Overall, it’s been a good start to the year. I’ve had my years of grieving (2022), surviving (2023), and healing (2024). Now it’s time to thrive!
