November 2024 Family Update
Paula and I kicked off the month at Aldi snagging all of the Advent Calendars. At one point we split up and when I saw her again I said “don’t judge me but I got both puzzle calendars.” She immediately said, “me too!!!!” and that pretty much sums up our friendship. I also got the pet treats, truffles, slime (for Skylar), and cheese. I decided to skip the wine this year since I hardly drank any of the whites last year.
Skylar has been practicing since this spring learning sign language. This month it all came together as she and Gaines interpreted the play Hadestown at Wilson Central High School. I was so proud of her hard work and the amount of hours she put in with rehearsals. Several people mentioned how well she did and that they couldn’t take their eyes off of her. She also received so many flowers that our house looked like a funeral home. My Dad and Mimi came in town just for the play and it was nice to have some time with them afterwards.
The following weekend we drove to Indianapolis for hockey. Travel season is upon us but it really picks up starting in January. Thankfully several of the cities are in driving distance this season but we will be flying to a couple. I prefer planes. Driving wears me out but especially coming home when I’m sleep deprived.
We had fun in Indianapolis. Skylar’s friend Hailey was able to go with us and we had another hockey kiddo bunking with us for the weekend. At one point we ended up at Ikea and I brought home new dog begs for both puppies, which they really like. I love how easy they are to keep clean!
One night Skylar brought home Nerf guns from Target on a whim. We both had friends over and teamed up for a Nerf War and I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard all year. I’m still finding bullets in random places and it makes me smile every time.
Kris did our family photos again this year. We opted to do them on the Lebanon Square and they turned out nice. That’s such a cute little area.
We also had a whirlwind trip down and back to Birmingham for Thanksgiving. With all of Skylar’s activities and work schedule, she hasn’t been able to go with me for probably a year or more but we were able to finagle it this time. We squeezed in 3 visits in 1 day and did manage to sleep a little bit before having to leave early to drive home so she could work her Black Friday shift. It was good to see everyone as always. And, of course, we managed to squeeze in a little prank on K-Diddy and Mimi.
We got back just in time for me to snag a Black Friday deal on a Christmas Tree and to see the first ice flowers of the year. Here’s to another holiday season, one of my most favorite times of the year.
