June 2026 Family Update

IT’S OFFICIAL!!! Skylar is a pilot.

She had a grueling 9-hour ordeal for her final check ride but she persevered and passed! I’m so incredibly proud of her. She also landed the job at the Smyrna Regional Airport, which is absolutely perfect for her. The schedule and the hours work great with her class schedule but, most importantly, she’s gaining experience in her field starting at age 19. The staff have also been incredibly kind and welcoming and quickly became invested in her pilot journey, which was very touching! She also finished her summer classes with A’s so she’s keeping that 4.0 strong!

My niece Avery is home for the summer so all of us girls had an outing to TPAC to see The Book of Mormon. We popped over to Hampton Social afterwards for dinner. It was so fun to be able to catch up with the girls and hear all about their freshman year.

Remember when I was in the ER with a kidney stone for Memorial Day? Well, that pesky stone caused a blockage and I ended up septic. I also aspirated during my stent placement so I had pneumonia on top of everything else. I was in an incredible amount of pain and was in the hospital for several days. I came home for the weekend and then was right back on Monday to get the stent removed. I was very sick and only remember bits and pieces of the whole ordeal. I’m so thankful for all of the people I had taking care of me and checking on me. I don’t have family here, but my pickleball fam came in clutch! Recovery was much slower than I ever anticipated – sepsis is no joke! I’m back to my regular activities but still not quite 100%, but I’m close. My endurance has been the hardest thing to get back.

I was upset that I missed Summer Solstice this year and Savannah Bananas but Skylar put our tickets to good use by taking her roommates. They lucked out with seats right behind home plate – lucky ducks!

Not much else to report as the hospital stay took up a good chunk of the month. Will be heading to Bama in a few days to spend the 4th with my family.
