October 2023 Family Update
Travel hockey & lacrosse season has begun. We kicked off the month with our first SGHL weekend in Tampa, FL. All four of the Nashville Wolverines teams went together. I was really proud of both our girls and our parents on the teamwork over the weekend to pull everything off. Skylar and I made friends with a new family by sharing a rental car with them, which was a lot of fun. We also had an opportunity to sneak over to Clearwater Beach and I got to put my toes in the sand. I realized it had been over 2 years since I had seen the ocean, which is way too long. The beach always makes me think of Mom and we found some Yah Yah shells too.
With the Roasted Coconut Cafe recently opening there has been a lot of press and Skylar made the news. Yes, she’s been going by Sky these days but she still answers to Skylar too.
On 10/13 we went to the opening night of the Eras Movie. We were in a theatre full of Swifties who traded bracelets, collected the special AMC merch, and sang their hearts out. It was so much fun. Not as fun as seeing her live with your besties but she’s an incredible performer no matter the venue. Skylar’s friend, Elizabeth, drove up to Nashville from Georgia the following weekend and we went to the Jonas Brothers concert. Just another reason I’d pick teenagers over toddlers is because you get invited to go to cool shows. Did I know any of the songs? Not many, but it was still a blast!
With the weather finally cooling off I’ve had several enjoyable evenings on the back porch and taking the dogs for walks and hikes. Last year it stayed nice until well into November so I’m hoping for the same this year. I love being outside. Between all the nature time and the finalization of our divorce last month, I’m feeling more peaceful than I have in a long time. It’s a nice and welcome change.
We wrapped up the month with a lacrosse tournament in Gatlinburg, TN. The fields were at an incredible location overlooking the mountains which were in full color the weekend we were in town. It was gorgeous! This trip will kick off 6 solid weekends of traveling. I’m trying to psych myself up for it because even this girl who loooves to travel recognizes that it’s a lot.
Then it was Halloween – very cold and windy this year. Following our usual tradition, we kicked off the Christmas season by listening to Mariah Carey on the way home.
Check back to make sure I survive the next six weeks on the go.
