July 2026 Family Update

Recovery from sepsis and pneumonia (at the same time) took waaaaaay longer than I wanted it to. It took a solid month before I truly felt back to my baseline and my vital signs reflected that. They were whack for a while but I’m finally declaring myself back to 100%. Wednesdays at Mundy quickly became my favorite day to play pickleball. I also celebrated my 3rd year anniversary of playing. While I’m so grateful for a sport that’s a fun way to move my body, I’m most thankful for the people and the friendships that I’ve made. It really is special!

We popped down to Bama for 4th of July. My sister recently bought a house – it’s SO cute – so we celebrated at her new place. It was a quick down and back trip to Bama but Skylar spent the holiday in DC with her friend Sophie who is doing an internship there. They were able to see the air shows and the fireworks and visted several museums and monuments. I think it’s so cool that she was there for the 250th birthday!

I got to fly with Skylar for the first time. She and Hailee took me on a sunset flight over Lebanon. I had so much fun and felt completely comfortable and confident with both of them. It was really neat watching them work through the checklists together and turn over command back and forth to each other. Plus, that sunset, bro!

The next week the girls drove up to Wisconsin for AirVenture at Osk Kosh. They had a blast! Skylar has been approved for her fall flight lab and she’ll be working on her instrument rating. She did pop home the last weekend of the month so that she could vote for the first time. I’ve been taking her with me since she was itty bitty but she finally got to push the VOTE button herself. All of the poll workers cheered for her and it was a precious memory!

That’s about it for July. It was super low-key but extremely hot and we still have August to go. Eek!

• Summers at the Saint – Murder mystery. Not an actual beach read.
• The Correspondent – Hated it but some of my friends loved it.

  • Celebrated the Peruvian Independence Day with friends
