October 2021 Update

We took our camper on its inaugural trip to Asheville, NC! We had an absolute blast and it was the highlight of October and, honestly, 2021 so far.

We’ve been saying we wanted to take Ben with us on vacation for a while and it finally worked out for him to come. Since he’s normally holding down the fort at the BFF, we had to figure out other arrangements for the pups/chickens. In the end, we decided to bring Onyx with us. It took her a little while to settle in (she refused to pee for 36 hours – ugh!), but she seemed to love the campground life and we loved having her with us. Our campsite was right next to a little pond and really peaceful.

We spent 2 nights in Asheville and toured the Biltmore while we were there. I really enjoyed the tour of the house and our lunch was amazing! My fave meal in Asheville was Juicy Lucy’s Burgers.

Next, we headed down to Georgia for 3 nights where Skylar gave us a personal tour of Camp Rainey Mountain, where she will be going back to work this summer.

The town of Clayton, GA is so quaint and we really love visiting there and especially shopping at the Wander store. We also had a FABULOUS dinner at Fortify Kitchen!

Mid-trip we did some White Water Rafting on the Chattooga River. I was a total newbie to this activity while Mike and Skylar are old pros. Honestly, they had me a little scared but I managed to stay in the boat, even on some class 5 rapids. Our guide was truly amazing. I followed his directions like it was my J-O-B and it was so much fun! The best part was the views (which I have no pictures of) but I’d absolutely do it again just for the beauty of undisturbed nature we were able to see.

On our last full day, we hiked Tallulah Gorge. It was intense with all of the stairs but we saw some really incredible waterfalls!

Over the course of the week, we pretty much figured out how to work all of the stuff on the camper and we got better and faster at setting up and tearing down. It was a great first go and I’m excited to go again!

Back at home it was the same old thing.

Work.

Hockey.

Scouts.

Repeat.

Skylar was finally able to attend referee training this month and will be taking her test soon!  This kid continues to amaze me with all that she does, and does well! They have also started their JV hockey season and she’s playing for Brentwood this year. She even scored her first goal!

For Halloween, we trick-or-treated in our favorite neighborhood and, in true Skylar fashion, she switched us to Christmas music on the way home. 🙂

Stay tuned for November! We are headed back to the beach for Thanksgiving.
